Win7 driver for Orinoco Gold 8470-FC?

Hi Folks,

I have an proxim orinoco gold 8470-FC pcmcia wifi card. It worked just fine under XP, but for the life of me, I can't get it working under Windows 7. I tried both the WHQL and Vista drivers from the proxim site, but no joy with either one.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this working on my win 7 machine? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

These days you could probably replace the card for about $20 for one which includes a Win7 driver.

thanks for the reply, fihart. couple reasons why that won't work for me:

1) i'm out of country for 2 months, so that's not a great option
2) i spent time tracking down this particular card since it's compatible with backtrack and the other apps used for putting cards in promiscuous mode, etc. I don't need just any wifi card - I need *this* wifi card.

So, I repeat my question - there are drivers for this card for XP and Vista. Is there any way I can tweak things to make this thing operate under windows 7? Proxim will eventually come out with win 7 drivers, or so they say, but that will surely take quite a while. Any thoughts appreciated!

See if you can figure out whose chipset it used -- most brands use several of a small pool of chipset makers to supply devices across their range (e.g. Atheros, Broadcomm are common suppliers). You may then find a generic driver for that chipset which will work with your model.

good idea - i'm looking. no joy yet, as there don't seem to be many drivers for atheros for windows 7 x64 out there, but i'll report back if i find something.

I had the same problem. I found drivers that you are looking for. I have windows 7 x64 with orinoco gold 8470 working in my laptop. Tell me if you still need them, I can upload for you.
