PCIe X1 PCIe X4

I have the M4A89GTD PRO/USB3, I'm running dual video cards that cover my PCIe x1 Slot, and the only other PCIe slot available is the PCIe x4, the connections look similiar but are not identical... My Question is... if I buy a PCIe Wireless Network Adapter that says it works in PCIe x1 slots will it also work in the x4 slot or will it not work?
