Hi:

Having awful problems controlling Lara's swimming........can't make it to to
the two levers in the underwater passageways, and when I do get them pulled,
on returning the same way I came, I don't see any 'trapdoor' above before I
would return to the pool I started in (the one with the lever)...Any
suggestions on getting the swimming down pat?
Thanks in advance.

In the dead of night, a faint whisper from MGS was heard, at about

Let's see ... advice on swimming.

Wait at least 1/2 hour after eating.
Always swim with a buddy.

oh, wait, you said "Lara's swimming"! ;)

There's no helping her. Her swimming skills are mediocre, at best, but
*boy* can she hold her breath! :)

Seriously...

(1) stay away from walls. I know that seems inane, but she really is
over sensitive to the proximity of walls, especially odd angles.

(This may actually mean practicing a swim several times before
attempting to *do* anything while swimming. The objective being that
you know the course which runs you into the least number of walls,
*before* you add the pulling of switches, the opening of doors, etc.)

(2) You don't need to get that close to a switch (or door). As long as
you are somewhat facing (head toward the switch), you can just press
action and Lara will magically float into position and pull the switch.
Of course, the better aligned you are (head toward the switch and
slightly above center) the sooner she will pull it.

(3) If you do get stuck in a crag, don't try to turn laterally (left or
right, if you were on land). Usually, you want to rotate her (up/down)
so she points as "away" from the crag (most open water) as you can and
move forward a bit, then try turning again. This is "crag dependent",
once in a while laterally is the only way you can turn, but under no
circumstances have I found it to help if you try to swim while turning
once you get stuck.

(Unfortunately, on most swims of any complexity, if you get stuck you're
probably not going to make it. If you get stuck twice, you can almost
assuredly write off poor Lara! I refer you to suggestion #1)

Anything more I could say is probably obvious already. There is little
you can do about currents, except swim continuously in exactly the
opposite direction (or just go with the flow), but usually that doesn't
end up helping any. But sometimes there are bugs!

Oh, and if you were looking for help with a particular part of the game,
you're going have to do a little better than "the pool with the lever".
TR3 is full of swimming spots and I have no clue where you mean.

Level name, things you've picked up, things you've done so far ... a
little geography would help. (ex. "In 'The Deck', after killing the
sharks from the raft and swimming to shore ...")
