PSU not enough?

Forum CPU & Components : Power Supplies, Cases & Mods PSU not enough?

Word :    Username :

I bought an aurora recently

Intel® Core™ i5 750 Quad Core 2.66GHz (8MB Cache)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
CrossfireX™ ATI Radeon™ HD 5670, 1GB GDDR5
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
1TB - SATA-II, 3Gb/s, 7,200RPM, 32MB Cache HDD
24X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

525w psu

But i am concerned that the PSU might not be enough, i don't plan on doing anything ultra extreme with it(i generally play stuff like WoW, SC2. TF2 Crysis, Oblivion, Counter Strike, ect ect) I plan to use it in moderation as i don't feel to need to overclock but i want this computer to last me a few years down the line.

Again should i stay with the 525 or upgrade to something better?

If you have a goog PSU which can really provide those 525W you won't have any problem at all (even if you do some OC). Your two graphic cards will only need 125W at maximum, so don't worry. On the other hand, if you have a generic PSU, go for a new one.

Below are PSU calculator for Antec, Corsair, & cooler Master

Calculate your PSU capacity then select a known good brand such as Corsair, Seasonic, Antec, Enermax, etc.

Good reliable known brand PSU's are wise investment.

You can find good PSUs in the link that I wrote. People with good knowledge in electronics test the unit and publish the results. That tell us if a PSU will work properly.
A generic PSU is a no-branded PSU (or strange/unknown/pirate brand).

Here you have two interesting articles about what I'm saying:

Hello JG331;

You should be OK with that Alienware Aurora 525W PSU. I used one of the PSU calculators, your parts list and added the a bit more than usual amount of case fans, USB devices and a few of the usual upgrades (2nd HDD, a PCI-e and PCI card, like a wireless network card) and the PSU calculator came up with a recommended PSU of less than 400watts.

The EVGA website recommends a 500W PSU for 2x 5670 1GB in CrossfireX. Look under the System Requirements tab.
