Hey guys,

Just a quick question to ask if i'll be able to tell the difference in performance between an AMD Athlon ll X4 640 (3.0Ghz) and an AMD Quad Core Phenom II X4 955?
I'm on a Budget and the Athlon is nearly half the price so its alot more tempting... the AMD Dual Core Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition 3.2GHz is also another cheapish option, but i have no idea on its peformance :p

I dont plan on overclocking and like i said i am on a pretty tight budget, so yeah any advice on which would be the best would be much appreciated :)

Thanks

The Athlon II X4 is a very good CPU. Get it if you're on a tight budget.

It's very good for budget gaming, just like the Athlon II X3 4xx series.

Hello Jilky;

Here is a comparison of Ahlon II X4 630 2.8 and Phenom II 940 3.0Ghz benchmarks. It should give you a good idea how the X4 640 3.0Ghz and X4 955 3.2Ghz stackup against each other.

If you're looking for a gaming build it makes more sense to take the X4 640 (or x3 445) and use the savings for a better video card than you'd be able to afford going with the X4 955.
