Ok, I am building a server to house all of our music. The Goal is to provide about 600-750 GB of drive space. This will give adequate space for current music and room to grow for the expected life of the server. It is not uncommon for us to have a half dozen different songs playing at the same time. We all like different music. All of this will be streaming to wired DLNA clients around the house in Lossless format.
The question is which option would you think is better?
1. 4 256GB SSD drives running RAID 5
2. 2 600GB 15,000 RPM SAS drives running RAID 0
3. Some other option
All other hardware will be the same. Also, I will be backing up the music to an external ESATA drive array as new music is added, so RAID is just for speed on the SAS and drive space on RAID 5.
