I just recently had my first Sata Hard drive (1 TB WD Cavier Black) go dead after only one year, it happened so quick i didn't even get to backup data. I have had IDE drives last ten years without issue. My question is what kind of Hard Disk should i rely on next, risk another sata, go back to IDE Hard Drives, or go with the much much ballyhooed solid state drives? Thanks in advance!

Hard drives don't always last very long, SATA and IDE formats don't really affect the lifespan (at least i don't think so) if your running the drive too hot (like over 50C) it has a higher chance of failing. What is the hard drive for, laptop or desktop? Or is this an external drive? If it's external/laptop then i would get an SSD.
