so i got some extra cash and was planning to upgrade my cpu i currently have a amd athlon ii x4 640 and a msi 790fx-gd70 so im looking at current cpus the AMD phenom ii x6 1055t and the AMD phenom ii x4 965 BE which would do better in games and general comp usage.

i have the amd phenom ii x4 965 and its awesome.

also ive read that not many games fully utilize multiple cores processors and is therefore not a significant advantage over even a dual core. Im not sure how accurate this is though.

Umm the 965 isn't worth what it costs, it's only a higher clocked 955 for more money. Even with the 955 you can still OC to at least 3.9 and that's good enough. So just save some extra and get the 955. The 1055T is better at multi-tasking, running things like synthetics its also good at (IE Benchmarks). The 1055T is probably better for you because although graphics-wise it is less performing than that of the 955. The 1055T has a better OC ability. As most people have been able to reach 4ghz+ on it easily on good mobos (like your 790FX-GD70), and the difference is very little even with the graphics disadvantage of the 1055T to the 955. The 1055T will also future proof.

Yeah, because AMD undervolted it.
You could do that to a 955 and make it run stable @1.15v if you get a good chip.

ya but u said it, we have to do that our own.... not every budy has overclocking underclocking n that all knowledge... so why not 965 because amd already done those manual things in their factory ....

The 965's TDP dropped when it became a C3 stepping processor, and C3 was designed for lower voltage usage. So it's technically not just the 140W 965 with a lowered voltage, it is slightly better silicon, not that it effects performance any.

I think your wasting your money purchasing a Phenom II X4 955/965 to replace an Athlon II X4 640, these processors are only going to be 15% faster at best. Unless your already cpu bottlenecked in games, you'll see even smaller gains than that, which probably isn't the case unless you have something as powerful as a 5870.

For general usage: PII X6 1055T

But i think that the X4 955 wins here, get the X6 1055T only if you are running alot (and i mean alot) apps at the same time.

hey i am still using my old 9400 GT....and played prince of persia 5 and MW2 last month....both were on max... so why i or anybudy need such a high end card like 5870??? just a question.....

people keep saying 1055 games will not utilize full 6 cores so its useless to get 1055 for gaming....


remember when q6600 came out ?? everyboady was like no game uses quad core so its useless to buy a quad core for gaming etc... but now we see games that came out later end up using all the four cores..and q6600 is still a decent enough gaming cpu..

buy the 1055t future prooof investment...

v sync is also turned on no big deal their.........
and pop 5 is not that high end gpu requirements....... mw and mw2 also fine with that resolution....every thing to max.......

i saw a discovery program, in that they said human eye can only see upto 29 fps...so what is the point for those number crunching fps....???

and my games don't lag... so definatly i am getting above 40-45 fps...

That's not true. Some eyes are more sensitive (can tell the difference between 50 and 60fps), some are less sensitive but even the less sensitive can tell the difference between 30 and 40 fps in MW2 and other quick action games (like UT3 etc.) For Crysis, having 30-35fps is like having 45-50 fps in MW2.

Check the FPS, please. I'm so curious

my games don't lag even for 1 second is this info is not enough for u!!!
and for the crysis... this game can get hell out of any GPU.... i played warhead but at medium settings with AA off... still not get more than 24 fps..
