Hello all,

I want to buy a Dell laptop with a video card (dedicated), but I need some advice (I don't know what video card is better). I want to use the laptop for video editing (3D animation, rendering), 3D software, and games (but games are not a priority).

Laptop with:
- 512 MB DDR3 ATI Radeon HD 4330 (+50 euro)
- 256 MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 (+40 euro)
- 512 MB ATI Radeon HD 4570 (+60 euro)
- 256 MB DDR3 ATI HD 3450 64bit (+30 euro)
- NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS 256 MB (+30 euro)
- NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS 512 MB DDR3 128bit (+50 euro)

Please put them in order of performance.

I need more opinions,

Hello and welcome to the forums :)
The first 5 are low-end profile cards,9600MGS is faster than them but still not enough for smooth gaming.
And for Video editing and 3D,all will be fine.
Video editing mostly benefits from a fast CPU rather than fast VGA,so make sure your CPU is good too

Hello again,

Intel Core 2 Duo (2GHz) or Intel Dual Core (2GHz)?

Maziar the HD4570 would be in the same league as the GF9600MGS which is a slow GF9600M.

I would recommend those two for the tasks at hand they should be good enough for smooth gaming, you just need to know to set the proper settings (most things on medium should be fine, but may require low, however it's easy to find a balance for most games).

They both should be fine for video editing and 3D animation with similar performance and features there as well.

PS, Double check the full specs of the CPUs, but usually a Core2Duo is faster than an intel DualCore.

Yeah i just looked at notebookcheck and it seems they 9600MGS and 4570M performance are close, thanks for that :)
And as for CPU,post the full specs of both but as Ape said, usually C2D is better

Only model of CPU differs, for example:

Intel Dual Core (2GHz, 2 mb cache L2, 800 MHz FSB); T4500/T4400/T4300/T4200
and
Intel Core 2 Duo (2GHz, 2 mb cache L2, 800 MHz FSB); T7250/T5870/T6400/T5800

Then go for the one which costs lower

The first two on your list are not the same, in fact they are very different;
T4500 = 2.3Ghz and 1MB Cache and the T7250 = 2.0 Ghz and 2MB Cache.

SO which exact cores are you looking at you have 8 there, and they are all over the map.

ouch,i first didn't see all those models lol :D
As Ape said,it depends on the models that you are considering

Also remember that the architectures are different with the Core2Duo being 64 bit, and most CoreDuo CPUs only supporting 32bit extensions.

Check intel's online resource (or just Google your options) and they will appear with lotsa detail, you can usually find the most detailed information from there, and then also look at review sites for the specific cores, some are better than others in gaming which may or may not be multi-threaded enough, but then suck at multi-media which is usually more multi-threaded nowadays.

For all: please I need a final review of my options (I repeat: I want to use the laptop for video editing (3D animation, rendering), 3D software, and games (but games are not a priority)):

Dell studio 1537
Core 2 Duo T6670 2,2 Ghz 2MB cache
2GB DDR 2 800mhz
256 MB ATI HD 3450
price: 397 euro (refurbished, but is like new)

or

Acer Extensa
Dual core 45 nm T4400, 2.2 Ghz, 1MB cache
3gb DDR2 667 mhz
512 MB nVidia G 105M
price: 452 euro (new)

or

Toshiba Satellite L500
AMD Athlon II Dual-Core, M300, 2Ghz, 1000kb cache
3gb DDR2 800mhz
512 ATI HD 4570
price: 470 euro (new)

or

Acer Aspire
Dual core T4400, 2.2 Ghz, 1MB cache
3gb DDR2 800mhz
512 ATI HD 4570
price: 458 euro (new)

or

Asus
AMD Athlon II Dual-Core, M320, 2.1Ghz, 1000kb cache
3gb DDR2 800mhz
512 ATI HD 5145
price: 477 euro (new)

or

Asus
AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core, QL-65, 2.1 Ghz, 1000kb cache
4GB DDR2
HDD - not a priority
512 ATI HD 4570
price: 475 (new)

Dell (because 2mb cache)? The 4gb (example: last asus) of ram is not important because I use win x32 (4GB ~ 3.3GB). HDD - not a priority, But hdd is included in the price of each laptop.
I need more opinions (price/performance)!

I would go for the 4th one because of having the best CPU/VGA between them

I personally would go with the Toshiba, the Athlon II cpu is slightly slower than most of the others, but I trust Toshiba for quality over those other brands.

Hello guys, difficult decision:

With Passmark CPU Mark

AMD Athlon II Dual-Core M300 2Ghz - 1197 points
and
Intel Dual-Core T4400 2.2Ghz - 1542 points

Toshiba vs. Acer brand, hmm another reason: display.

Toshiba have TFT LED
and
Acer - WXGA.

I need more opinions, please. I'm very confused, Toshiba is a big brand but have AMD CPU and I never used AMD CPU (Intel is Intel).

See full description here for each laptop:
For Toshiba: http://tiny.cc/vj24r
and
for Acer: http://tiny.cc/cjmfp

Hmmm, very difficult. Probably Acer :sarcastic:
May 26, 2010 4:02:46 PM

i'd go for the ACer
!
