Depends on what you'll be using it for, the 1055T (i suppose this the X6 you're looking at) whould trump the i5-750 for highly threaded tasks, while the 750 would come out on top with lightly threaded tasks.

Heres a comparioson: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/147?vs=109

Though the 1055T's platform can be lower as you have plenty of decent boards for under $100, while P55 boards start around $100.

That are the same speed. They both go 0mph when installed in your mobo.

But for real at least give people the actual cpus you are talking about. Also stating what type of workloads you are concerned about is very helpful as well.

i5 = good for gaming ( its a light weight athlete )
phenom x6 = good for multi tasking ( its a heavy weight guy who can do alot of stuff but a little slowly )

So if you just want to game, go for i5... if you want to convert stuff, video or image editing blablas or encryption... phenom x6

overall, i5 is faster, but from the benches that i've seen, the phenom will be faster during video or 3D applications.

Thanks to all that replied, I was looking for a PC for my son who would use it for civil engineering apps this coming fall - ie AuotCad and Civil 3D.

Appreciated all replies and ideas.

For autocad and similar use, I'd get the PhII x6 over an i5 any day.

i think go for the phenom II x6

AMD made it to be an equal for i7 but it didn't win

i think it's better than an equal i5

Mmm. I5 vs phenom II threads go much better now that keith/cry/jen aren't around. :)

Pretty simple, if you can utilize the 6 cores take the Phenom II.

I went through the same research and I ended up getting the X6 1055t because in the future, 6 cores will beat any 4 core. Plus I got a Cooler Hyper 212+ to overclock and my x6 is beating my buddies I7 930 in most benchmarks.
