So when I eventually upgrade, I'm thinking about moving my system to the Mini ITX platform, for space saving reasons. I'm thinking of getting the Asus M4A88T-I Deluxe , or if something else comes out before I upgrade that's better, that (odd, I swear Newegg used to carry an MSI Mini ITX mobo).
However, originally I was planning to buy a decent sound card for my next build, but that's obviously not an option with a Mini ITX board. Especially seeing as Mini ITX seems popular with HTPC builders, I'm curious whether people think there's a real gain from a sound card in audio quality. Now, mind, I would not be buying a super high-end one, more in the range of $50 to $70.
So, would going with a Micro ATX board with a sound card be more beneficial than the space saving ITX? Would I really notice a quantifiable difference between the onboard Realtek and something else? Also I would not be hooking these up to super expensive speakers either, something around the range of Logitech X-540s.
Thanks in advance!
