Upgrade CPU/board/ram or ssd

I was wondering what would be a better upgrade to increase overall performance. Current system: Q6600, 4GB DDR2, Asus P5qSE board running on pny gtx480. Mostly running playable metro 2033 on very high but when a lot of action come there some little lag spike. Would it better to upgrade to X58 board, I7 950, 6GB DDR3(540$ upgrade) or getting SSD Drive(200$ upgrade).

SSD's only affect load time and how it affects fps and game performance is minimal since the game has already been loaded, so if you feel the need to upgrade for more gaming performance, I would go for your overhaul ($540) Upgrade. SSD is only for a quicker load and boot, which is nice but it doesn't really affect gaming!

I mean would a i950 with 6gb ram would be a huge increase in fps or should i put like 2-4 more gb ram of ddr2 or maybe oc my q6600 to 3ghz

+1 for the i7-950 upgrade, I couldn't have said it better than computerrock1, SSD's are best for increasing the speed of program loading.

For a game like Metro 2033 the fps increase would be like 5-8 fps more ?

For Metro 2033, to be honest I wouldn't expect more than 1 or 2 fps gain with the RAM increase. It is probably one of the worst coded games I have ever seen. However with the CPU/RAM/Motherboard upgrade you are probably looking at somewhere between 15-30 fps increase. Yes I know my estimate is broad, that's because I don't know exacts for each upgrade/situation. However I think its a fair estimate.

+1 again for computerrock1, the RAM is not where your performance lies especially when you already have 4gb, RAM will only make a big difference when you are using 100% of the available amount, then adding more makes a good difference.

The performance lies in the GPU and then the CPU when it comes to gaming.

If you are brave, you might consider dabbling in overclocking and instead wait it out to get a complete new system next year.

And i guess passing to ddr2 speed to ddr3 would help too. I think im gonna get cpu, mobo, ram upgrade running stock and if there some game incoming that requirement more, then overclocking and SLi will be if that can benefit.

Well i just installed my new system, and i did saw 10-14 fps increase in metro 2033 but game like Black Ops and starcraft 2 by like 30-50 fps ! Im happy now and it run quieter then my old system !
