I'm trying to find a good 1tb external hard drive. I checked for these ones so far

Western Digital My Book Essential 1TB
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1682...

Western Digital My Passport 1TB
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1682...

Seagate Expansion 1TB
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1682...

Seagate Backup Plus 1TB
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1682...

TOSHIBA Canvio 3.0 1TB
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1682...

The problem is, all of them have quite a lot of bad reviews about the drives failing early and not being reliable...

So I really dont know what I should do and buy. Anyone got any tips and suggestions?

Having a small external HDD isnt required, but I do intend on bringing it to college and back home everyday.

I've used a bunch of WD My Book drives and the only issue I ever had was that I knocked one over and snapped off the SATA 3 connector which is not well supported IMO, otherwise never had an issue with them. It was quickly replaced by WD, but now I lay them on their side so it isn't an issue.

One thing to remember with Newegg is that they sell thousands if not more of every drive and usually most of the posts are motivated by complaints, happy customers rarely post.

Thanks! this is the hard drive i ended up buying. reading feedback sure isnt always a good thing since people prefer taking time to complain rather than compliment
