I am looking for a board without SLI for my new I7 960 CPU but very fast as the MB S-1366 X58 Gigabyte EX58-Extreme.

  1. There are no 'good' LGA 1366 MOBO without SLI/CF, just don't use it. The advantage of the X58 is it's PCIe x16/x16 -- meaning 1 or 2 GPUs won't impact the performance of the PCIe bandwidth.

I would look at the ASUS P6X58D-E or ASUS P6X58D Premium, it has the full compliment of SATA2/3 with RAID and USB 2/3 plus excellent Phase power. If you need eSATA then the ASUS Sabertooth X58. In any case steer clear of Gigabyte.

  2. Is this board Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 as good as the MB S-1366 X58 Gigabyte EX58-Extreme? It supports USB 3.0 which the MB S-1366 X58 Gigabyte EX58-Extreme doesnt and the USB3 board is cheaper.

    Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1471/7/ and the MB S-1366 X58 Gigabyte EX58-Extreme http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=257&Itemid=69&limit=1&limitstart=12
  3. I looked at the links, comparing an Intel X58 to an AMD 890FX is like comparing an Apple to a Watermelon, and while Intel makes great CPUs they produce the bottom barrel MOBOs.

The ONLY Gigabyte MOBOs that I can recommend are their top of the line e.g. UD9 or G1 series. Google {GA-X58-USB3 +SSD +BSOD} The low + mid-end Gigabyte are bad in 'real life' and posted problems in this forum.

Therefore, EVGA and ASUS are my top two companies; EVGA is better for Gaming and the ASUS is best for mixed-use. I would go with what I suggested above.
