I am trying to replace a hard drive I think has stopped working. I have purchased a Seagate Baracuda Sata drive and am now attempting to bring it up with the recovery cd and it has been sitting on the startup repair is checking your system for problems for an hour now and won't let me cancel it.
Any ideas?

Your PC appears to be in "Startup Repair" mode which is not appropriate for your situation and means your PC is not booting from the Recovery CD.

You need to first ensure that the CD-ROM drive is set as the first boot device in the BIOS so it can boot from the Recovery CD.

Hold in the power button for more than 5 seconds and the PC will power-off.
Now switch on again and be ready to press the appropriate key to get into BIOS Setup. Change the boot sequence so that CD-ROM is first, then "Save & Exit" (F10).

The PC should now boot from the Recovery Disc.
