WHY IS THE 975 MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE 980x. The 975 is quad core yet its more expensive than the 6-core 980x. How does that make sense? I feel like i'm missing something... (prices form newegg.com)

Solution
Because the 975 is still a flagship chip that is being phased out.

Since they're just selling remaining stock anyways, and demand isn't high they just aren't doing anything.

That isn't really true, more like top high-end CPUs doesn't get big price cuts because they're just selling the stock out.

"With the 82W Core i7-870s coming in, the older 95W Core i7-870 gets a considerable price cut, falling by almost half, from $562 to $294."

That happened a month ago. :)

That's not an extreme edition CPU,the extreme models usually don't get a significant price drop
