Very STUPID crossfire question (help)

Ok I currently have the following motherboard

Mainboard : Gigabyte X48-DS4

it has 2 full 16 PCIe express slots

my current video card is a Visiontek Radeon 4850 512mb
if I wanted to add a second card to this configuration would I need to purchase the exact same brand and model. Obviously it has to be an ATI Radeon, but does the card itself have to be a Visiontek?

Also would this only have an impact on high res games such as Crysis or could it increase performance on less graphic intensive games such as WOW?

More about very stupid crossfire question help
  1. The 512mb memory might bottleneck it...
Manufacturer doesn't matter, but they will run at the slower card's speed (If one is 625 and the other is oc at 700 they will both run at 625, same with memory).
  2. What about your PSU? brand? model?

Well, 2xHD4850 is about the same performance with HD5850...
If you want to add another, you can go with another brand, as long as they are still HD4850... :)

OC'ing your quad a little bit will help a lot...
  3. You can crossfire it with any 4800 series card. It's best to just get another 4850 512MB with the same clocks though. The manufacturer does not matter. If you get a 1GB card, it will only use 512MB when in crossfire so the extra vram goes to waste.
