I am playing TR3 on Playstation 2. I am still in the jungle, and
finally got to the big watery area. This is the area after you climb up
from over spikes go all around, climb up more. Shoot the monkey, go
into a narrow cave, shoot another monkey, pull the switch, then a big
bolder rolls after you. Then after you run back into the norrow cave
you climb up and find hapoons and more ammo. Then climb back down and
flight a big puma and another monkey.
So far in the game I have not found any guns. Only ammo and matches.
It's hard to flight big cats with small guns. By the way that last area
looks like a mosque or Hindu Temple. I was waiting for a snake to
attack me. LOL!
In one case a monkey took my life pak away. Where did the monkey place it?
One bad thing about TR3 is, there is no compass. (N.E.S.W).
Also, in the game I notice a stange graphic that I can not make out. It
looks like white loop rope hanging. Their is one right on top of the
big log. I try all kinds of grabs & jumps, but I can not grab it. Then
their is another white thing that looks more like pipe. I do not
understand what that means either.

Rope like items and pipes are just features of the jungle and cannot be
interacted with (like vines and creepers). The monkey will have "placed"
your medi-pack wherever he is killed, unless you get to him first in which
case you can grab it immediately
As for the guns, you don't get any extra ones in the jungle level, UNLESS
you get a secret which is literally concealed right at the very start of the
level. The secret contains the shotgun, ammo for which you do pickup during
the course of jungle.
The big cats can be tough, but with a smart series of back-flips and side to
side ones you can pop off a big cat or two with pistols without losing any
health at all - practice makes perfect here.
Stick with it - it is definitely the best TR ever

Don't shoot the monkeys! They are your friends in this level. If you shoot
one, the rest know about it and get nasty.

Well, be that as it may, but they don't need many pistol shots to knock them

They let you have the medipacks if you follow them. They eventually drop
them. The 100% kill count gets you what, a gold star? A free trip to Iraq to
do some real killing?

I didn't know that! Good tip

Hopefully not.... without descending into a heated discussion/rant on the
subject, the less said about that the better.... But no, you are right - it
doesn't really get you anything - it's only really good if you are doing
timed runs etc. with people and set targets that you have to meet in any
given level as well as a time in order to make it harder.

Ok, I won't start off with a spoiler, in case you wish to try it yourself,
but the clue is go into the library and look very carefully at the books and
the fireplace. You might be able to figure out where to go from here and
that will lead you to the race track key. If not, read on beyond the spoiler
space....
Good luck!
Kieran

To get the race-track key, you need to get into the basement of her house,
and in turn climb into a fish tank down there and pick up the key from the
bottom. The door to the cellar is under the stairs, on the right, in the
arch as you go through to the pool area. Trouble is you will see it is
closed.
Trick is to go into the library, pull out an already protruding book, and
notice the fire gets turned off. Climb up inside the fireplace and you will
notice a room with a switch and a push block. Push the block, and open your
way out into another attic type room. Then go through that room and down
some stairs on the left and pull the lever/switch there that will open the
door right out onto the landing.
Now you have a path from the switch in the room above the fireplace to the
door under the stairs. Now for the hard part - this is a timed run; Pull the
switch in the room above the fireplace and you will see a scene showing you
where the secret door is. Do a roll, and run to the end of the gantry. Jump
up into the attic room, and sprint around and down the stairs to the
landing, and down the main staircase and around the corner. Do a diving roll
into the cellar. From here it should be quite easy.

Don't ignore the monkeys -- follow where they go and they will walk
you through the level! (Make the most of them, they'll never be this

It's funny - I never used a walkthrough for any part of TR3, but then when I
started reading on here about this monkey business I checked the one out on
Stella's site - in Jungle they are friendly and don't hurt you, but in
Temple ruins they harm you regardless of how you have treated them in
jungle. This is interesting enough (I always shot them as I figured they
were stealing my pickups), but the fact they walk you through the level
isn't mentioned in Stella's guide. Also what happens when you have to go
where monkeys can't go? (rope slides, spike traps etc.) do more monkeys
"pick you up" on the other side?

Don't know if this needs spoiler space so just to be sure...
It seems to be one monkey per clue -- follow the monkey and it will
lead you to the next switch, jump, pickup etc. Then you're on your
own till the next monkey turns up. I can't believe I'm the first
person to notice it.
Cheers!

I think you better had believe it - I have never seen that posted up in any
form anywhere else.... I wonder if Jeff Reid knew about that one though
(after recently posting all those TR3 challanges!)?

Well, I sure didn't notice either! Gee
That's a good one. I'll
have to try that out pretty soon. See it always makes me wonder what
kind of little goodie like this we all have overlooked. I'm pretty sure
there are things of a similar subtle nature hidden in all the games. We
just have to be sharp enough to pick it out
Hm. but that they did
that particular one in TR3 gives me to think they may well have done
some little thing in every section in TR3 and likely TR4.

If you reread Stella's walkthrough, it is sprinkled with "a helpful
monkey shows you the way" comments, so they as good as had it! (and
I'm sure the monkeys don't do everything for you -- just the basics)

Looks like I need to do some more reading then
One thing I am moderately
sure of though, following the monky's hints in terms of direction may make
it easier to miss secrets then if you looked around yourself. Ah well, it's

Perhaps a newbie should explore rather than follow a monkey.
But hey, after so many years of playing, I never knew that the monkeys are
so helpful. Sure, it is mentioned that the medi-paks are taken away to
another section by the monkeys, I didn't realise that ALL the monkeys direct
Lara where to proceed. And the part that if you shoot one monkey and the
rest will bite - I don't think so. I think for one time I was quite
relunctant to shoot so many animals again (after completing the game once or
twice), so I let the first few monkeys go. The ones in the first level do
not bite - they just steal medi-paks - but those in the 2nd do and they'll
pursue and bite Lara! But maybe I should play them again to be sure the
monkeys do behave like the monks in Barkhang Monastery (TR2). If only the
guards in the Nevada levels behave like that too.
By the way anyone tried completing any of the games/levels (excluding the
boss levels or those in which it is necessary to shoot to proceed) without
killing any enemies? Is it even possible? (Think of all the wild jumping and
sprinting that Lara must do to avoid bullets!) I know it is possible for
some levels, like the Jungle level.

It is possible for the GREAT WALL section of TR2...but damned hard.
In fact, it's one of the classic TR challenges - do the GREAT WALL
segment without firing a shot, getting all three 'dragons', and in under
10 minutes ( I've never been able to do it without using at least one
small medipack ).

Hello Kieran:
I got to another watery area. This is where you see underwater caves
with trenches. Two levers to pull then you find a block to pull. Then
the water rises on the other side. Then you go into the water fall,
pull a lever, that lever opens up an opening under the water. Then you
follow underwater path. When you get up from the water you fight a
tiger. Then up the latter. Fight a monkey, down some blocks you fight
another tiger. The area is muddy. I see ammo by a tree. But then
their is a gate or door, but I do not know where to get the key. Plus I
can not find any other thing to do in this area because of the mud.
Also, back where the cave watery trenches were, I could not find any
more levers to open up those other underwater gates where that pulling
block was. I feel like I am skipping something. So far I found 3 out
of 6 secrets. BTW is the 6 secrets just in this level or the whole game?
Please email. THX, SR!

can not find any other thing to do in this area because of the mud.
Also, back where the cave watery trenches were, I could not find any
more levers to open up those other underwater gates where that pulling
block was. I feel like I am skipping something. So far I found 3 out
of 6 secrets. BTW is the 6 secrets just in this level or the whole game?
>>
Right, the 6 secrets are in the level, but some are hard to find, and two
you miss right at the start if you have slid down the long slope without
collecting any secrets (so you have done pretty well). The following is a

When you climb the ladder up from the pool where you fight a tiger, the key
to the gate is right at the top on the ledge (the ledge opposite to the one
you climb out on from the ladder). For reference this position is before you
go down to the muddy bit to fight the last tiger. The key is called the
"Indra Key" A monkey will try to take it, so either follow it and grab the
key from it when it drops it, or shoot it and pick it up. That door is the
end of the Jungle level and the start of Temple Ruins.

Hi: Oh, great. Each time I load the game that I save, I have a choice
that says: Story So Far. If I choose that, do I get more of the story
in video with clues?
How many level is there in the game? And after I finish the whole game,
I will prabably play it again to beat my time score. But I will have to
first find those two secrets up on that slope. I think the slope is the
most difficult part on this level. Are the secrets before the
horizontal log?
And in a lot of those muddy areas, their are structures, but I can not
seem to get on them.

In the dead of night, a faint whisper from SR was heard, at about

The "Story so far" might fill you in, but if you're in the first level
of India, then you don't have a "story so far"! I think that just shows
the collection of FMVs which you have already seen. I don't think
you've seen any yet, right?
Oh, lordy. 14 levels? or was it 20-ish in TR3. I could go look at a
walkthrough and count them, but I'm lazy.
Let's just say "lots",
shall we!
Playing through for time is one way to go, but I never liked the timed
puzzles too much, so setting speed records in levels is not much of "my
thing". I always just played through as best I could think to the first
time around. Then I would play it again to get all secrets.
Muddy, the first level? Hardly. Just that part near the end of the
level. And unless you use cheats, you won't be up on top of much during
the first level. They just look accessible.

You should have explored the "dry" part of the muddy zone near the
beginning. That ammo you see in the tree was just to the left of the
bottom of the long ramp. I'll leave it to you to find a way up into the
tree.
Its actually exactly the same muddy area. You can see the start for the
gate at the end, and vice versa. You can't cross it though... its too
deep, Lara drowns.
And yes, one of the secrets is. The other is after the log, but before
the bottom of the ramp.

That's OK. If you keep an eye open over at alt dot binaries dot
pictures dot nospam dot toons you'll be able to catch the latest
Zimmerman works as they're released. He does a lot of subjects OTHER
than Lara, I had to search through over 3000 to find those I posted,
but his pencil work is astounding!

Over 3000? Wow. Busy boy, that Zimmerman. If he did one a day,
every day, that'd be well over 8 years worth.

Gotta confess, some are duplicates. He reversed his naming system
about a year ago so I have double copies ALL over the place!

Definitely.
Shall subscribe to that little NG, thankin' ye kindly sire.
Um, on second thought, all I see on my server (in my headers) is alt
dot binaries dot nospam dot toons - alrighty then, we'll just see if
that one has any double-plus good stuff.
Thanks for offering the lead, MT.

Ayup. My error. There's definitely no "pictures" in the name of the
group. (Actually, I was passing on another group name, then realised
what I was doing and didn't correct the error completely.)
