When they (MAC) says they have a computer with 8 and 12 cores. Does Intel and AMD have PC equivalents? Does the best, beast of a quad or 6 core PC come close to a quad, 8 or 12 core MAC?
USE LOGIC, who makes cpus for mac? INTEL. And the Mac doesnt have a 12 core cpu. It has two 6 core cpu. 6+6=12. The 8 core is made up of two quad core cpu. 4+4=8.
Two 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” processors = 8core mac pro
Two 2.66GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” processors = 12core mac pro

The 8 and 12 core macs are dual socket boards using Xeon processors usually. You could build a PC system with the same specs and it will perform identically.
My fault guys, should have looked up how Apple make up their MACs...I've always been more PC focused.
Yes, I know Intel also provides for Apple MACs. So when I've heard 8 and 12 core MACs on the regular, I was thinking that Intel had something made for them that wasn't common on the "PC" side...
Just didn't look up on the MAC side to see they just include two CPUs.
OSX Server with Darwin media streaming used to be ace, now it's just nothing special with the big shift towards Flash video as the standard web video format.
