My First Build :)

I am somewhat new to building computers, I never really built my own but I have been looking around newegg often and looking what sort of parts would fit more bang for my buck. With a tighter budget I plan on getting a decent gaming rig for around 600$ and I just wanted to know your thoughts on it.

Keep in mind that I'm but a small newb to this but hope to know perfectly what I am looking at, in that case I could be missing a lot of stuff (excluding the external parts). Just tell me what it is I could use and what I could do with out.

Though from the looks of it I think I might need some fans and heatsinks to keep it cool?

I'd like to add that this is something I want to start off and then upgrade as time goes on to eventually having a pretty high end gaming comp.

*Edit: I've updated what I'm willing to replace, so that averages my rig to around 650$ which isn't too bad. After looking over everything I decided to make this one and when I feel it's time I'll upgrade the mobo and the cpu along with the ram to DDR3. Thanks for all the advice guys.

I do not like the PSU. I suspect the the output ratings are inflated and you cannot tell what the max 12 volt power you can pull out of it is. I suspect the real 12 volt output is around 40 - 45 amps.

That's still enough power to run your system, but the better manufacturers do not put misleading labels on the side of their PSU's.

Case: I'd spend about $20 more and get an Antec 300 case. It will have better cooling.

So I replaced the PSU and the Case, as you guys suggested, with:

PSU: Thermaltake TR2 W0379RU 500W ATX 12V v2.2 Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153113

Case: Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066

Hope that looks better even if it is a bit more, won't do no harm.

$627.92 before anything so it's not too bad.

Thanks for the suggestion shanemarines! However, the 2 gigs of ram doesn't suit my needs and the hard drive has a bit too much space for me, I have like 160 gigs on this one and I can barely fill it hahaha.

Negative: avoid the entire TR2 TT line!
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Thermaltake-TR2-RX-750-W-Power-Supply-Review/902/9
Thermaltake TR2 RX 750 W is, according to our methodology, a flawed product that must be avoided at all costs. It can’t deliver its labeled wattage at high temperatures, but this is not the worst of it: ripple and noise level are way above the maximum allowed when you pull 80% or more from the unit’s labeled capacity (i.e. 600 W and above), overloading your components (especially electrolytic capacitors from the motherboard and video cards), which can cause your PC to present an erratic behavior (crashes and random resets) and, under extreme conditions, damage components.

Have a look at an 80+ certified unit

Thanks for the tip! I switched to a OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ500MXSP 500W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply compatible with core i7

The great thing about RAM is it can be upgraded anytime and you did say you wanted a build which could be upgraded in time if needed right?

As for the 1TB that could be switched out, but I don't see the need consider how LOW the PRICE is. :)

I would like to address your flaws don't take it as I'm bashing your system building skills, but heres your problems:

You have DD2 800Mhz RAM, You have a AMD Phenom Quad with a AM2+ Socket which is old considering AM3 is a lot better is so many ways, You have a 320GB for $50.00 which is kinda expensive considering I just seen a deal on new 1TB for 64.99 with free shipping and its 7200RPM as well and last but not least you have a IDE Sony drive posted which I have no idea why unless your a OEM company and want to be extremely cheap, but lose the quality of SATA.

Sorry I don't want you to waste your money, but of course it is your money. :(

Yes, I understand I can upgrade the ram anytime I want but I'd rather start off with 4 gigs, being that I do want a decent gaming computer. I don't think 2 gigs will suffice too well. I want to be able to game and still do other things at the same time, being that nowadays the internet browsers take more and more.

Don't get me wrong, I like you're suggesting parts for me, I just want to build a computer on my own without people giving me a setup. It'll feel like I don't know my computer ya know? Still I thank you again for the suggestions ^^.

Remember I'm starting from the bottom and working my way up, I'll eventually have stronger and faster ram, same goes for the processor. I could probably switch out the cpu, I have to look into what I might want first, though I do want an AMD and from the ratings the AM2+ got it seems like a kickbutt cpu. For the hard drive I can look into that more, probably get something around 500gb, but no more. As for the Sony drive I replaced it with something else, but I'll update that list later.

I know all this is low tech but it'll be a lot better than this dell I've had for a while (it's pretty bad) and something with these specs would probably make it implode so I think it has a good start until it's time for upgrades ^^
