Been having trouble with my computer booting up, sometimes it would hang for a very long time in post. Finally got round to testing it and found that 1 of my sticks is not working. I have a Asus M3A32 MVP Deluxe-Wifi with the latest BIOS and an AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE.

Ram I had:

OCZ Reaper, PC2 6400 (800) dual channel 4gb (2x2gb)

RMA states I need to send them both back, so I need to get some more ram mean while. Im hoping that a local comp shop will loan me a stick, however, if they dont then I need to buy some more, which I dont mind doing.

My motherboard is good to go with PC2 8500 (1066) and the cpu is good with this too.

Is it worth going for pc2 8500's 2x2gb, which will mean I will have to sell the OCZ I currently have in order to get the best performance from my ram timings etc. In this scenario, the money I get from selling my current ram may go towards another 2x2gb so I have 8gb in total. If its not worthwhile selling my current ram then I could use it for a future build and keep them as spare for now.

Do I go for PC2 6400?

Whats the best option and which ram sticks (make model etc) would you recommend?

Usage? Gaming, some overclocking from time to time (when I have some spare time to mess around with it again), obviously the general use as well.

I plan to get a 6870 when I feel its right to buy and looking forward to crysis 2, rage and them types of games.

Thanks in advance guys

PS... whatever ram you recommend, please pick something without high heatsink's, because my cpu cooler/fan is close to ram slots, I would prefer being able to use all 4 slots with the same type of ram.

Don't bother with the 8500. It will have minimal performance impact, but cost you a bundle ($70?) that you could (and should) spend on graphics.

What's your current build (CPU especially)? No need to upgrade your graphics if your system can't handle it.

As far as a stick of RAM while you RMA--ask around. I'm sure you can find a friend who either has a spare stick of RAM or will let you borrow one. If they have 2x2GB, they'll get by just fine without one for a bit. If they have 6GB (2x2GB + 2x1GB), they'll actually get by better with just the 2x2GB so you'd help them to borrow sticks.

Im sure the above can handle a 6870 nice and easy.

Most of my friends have no clue what pc components are and Iv just asked the local computer shops, but they dont even have any ddr2 ram, LOL... Would have to order it, so I think its best I send my ram away but first order some new ones.

So Iv gone for having to buy ram till my rma is completed.

I had this, which I sent back for RMA:

And got this:

OCZ have said they longer make my ram, so have kindly said they will replace mine with:

So I plan to use the corsair and ocz at the same time, hopefully I shouldnt have any problems, but if I do, then I will have to get another pair of the ocz they have are sending me.
