I run an Acer Aspire T180 with the latest BIOS. I want to upgrade from my Sempron 3500+ to an Athlon 64 X2 5000+. When I try to boot up, everything seems to power up correctly, but after a few seconds the CPU fan stops. There is no POST screen and no beeps. I've confirmed that this CPU is supported, and the old CPU works fine still. I'm getting quite frustrated as I can't figure out what's wrong.
I've been researching this problem all morning and can't seem to find a conclusive answer. I'd appreciate any help you may have to offer. I have tried resetting the CMOS and removing the battery, but still no joy.
