UPGRADE FROM 9800GT .....300-370$ budget!!!!!!!!!! plz help

Hey is it possible using a 9800 as a physics card and if possible can you please give me some good suggestions for a new graphics card around the budget of 300-370 $.

( BTW the 9800 is kind of malfunctioning- some artifacts appearing and stuff..... so will this be a put down for the physics idea)

More about upgrade 9800gt budget help
  1. You can get a HD 5850. What PSU do you have?
  2. Actually iam kind of on 500 hehe... but iam hoping to upgrade to atleast a 750!!

Hey could you kindly tell if i could use the 9800 as a physics card with the new card iam buying.....
  3. 500w is fine if it's a good brand. Forget the physx, many games don't use that.
  4. thnx for the reply... could you also name some good nvidia cards or somthin much better than the 5850 although its a gud card.... around the budget!

    thnk you
  5. If you want good suggestions check out the the article here on Tom's - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/graphics-card-radeon-hd-5870-geforce-gtx-480,2621-4.html.
My vote for that price is a 5850, these are great and can overclock quite a bit. If you're going to spend a little more, then the GTX 470 is nice, but only a little more money gets you a 5870 which is a phenomenal gpu.

Yes, using the 9800GT for physx is doable and a pretty good idea, but like mosox says, it's not that widely used - and it will use some power so if your power source isn't up for it, well, then I guess you can't.
  6. There is the GTX 470, however it is a power-hungry bitch and is not much better than a 5850. With the 5850, since it is much cooler than the GTX470, what is stopping you from overclocking the 5850 past what the 470 can do?
  7. THANK YOU ALL VERY VERY MUCH FOR THE QUICK REPLIES!!!!!! Although i used nvidia for 6 years.

    just 1 question 2 x 5770 or 5850?
  8. 1 5850. But if your upgrading to a 750w PSU, just grab a 470. It'll be faster then the 5850 and fall right in your budget. And if your really dying to you can still use your 9800 for physx, although u prolly wont need to.
  9. again i would like to say the 5850, their is a way to use an nvidia card as physx with ati as the video, then you would have the money to upgrade you psu as well. If you really love nvidia. you can see that 9800gt for alittle extra cash, upgrade you psu and get the 470 but the 5850 will be a simpler route
  10. hmm thnx dude..... i ws watin for a gtx answer as i'm a proud user of nvidia shocked at the market being taken over by ATI......... hopefully ill buy a 470 with 750 psu!!!!
    so,
    THNX EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    HUGE HELP!!!!!!!!!
  11. Well I guess that depends. The 2x5770 is probably just slightly better than a single 5850, but you won't have DX11 support. And with a 5850, you can then get a second one down the road for an awesome game-destroying gpu set up. If this is just temporary, or you plan to buy an entirely new rig in a few years, the 2x 5770 is good enough and probably less money.
  12. thnk u 4 da replies

As this is the only time ill be upgrading for a long time i would b willing to get set up with the best affordable GPU!!!

    ( SO 470 OR 5850 OR OTHER )

2 x 5770 is on par with a single 5870, and it would have DX11 support (despite what you say, as they are DX11 cards as well)

@OP: between the 5850 and GTX470, its up to what brand you prefer, 5850 can be had for $300 and the GTX470 for $350, 5850 uses less power but is a tad slower than the GTX470
  14. +1 GTX470

Ah, you're right about DX11. I read that the 58xx series was their first to have it, but apparently 57xx came after. Did not know that.

I have not looked into crossfire 5770 very much so I don't know that it is comparable to a 5870, but if so, then that's definitely the more cost effective route to take. Otherwise probably go with the GTX470 since it is still in your budget, but slightly better than a 5850.
