P4 or celeron d

which would be the better processor for a 478
one is a p4 2.66 512 cache northwood
one is a 2.93 celeron d 340 prescott 256 cache
i plan to use in my kids mobo which i already have both just going to use one and toss the other

p4 2666.6 x20 133.3 533.3
L1 8 4way
trace 12 8way
L2 512 8way

celeron 2933.5 x22 133.3 533.4
L1 16 8way
trace 12 8way
L2 256 4way

so in a nutshell celerons faster with sse 1,2,3 and dubble L1
where p4 double the L2

More about celeron
  1. I think the Celeron D is a two-CPU package though (simmilar to the Pentium D). Either way, cooling will likely be an issue...

    celeron D is single core.

    :p

the p4 will be better even with lower clock. but u wont feel the difference in day to day work
cooling wise, none will give much headache as the clocks arent that high on p4 and celeron is celeron (low end)
  3. thats what i was thinking also that the p4 would run a little better with that bigger cache and yea both are single core oldies. only going to play sims 2 and 3 and a little surfing. my majic jack will also be hooked up to it. ive tested both and both run very cool really. 40-47 with 35-40 ambiant temps. mobos have fan control and they never broke slow speed so there real quite. (also there nice heatsink i got for 5 bucks at swap market helps)

    thanks for the quick replys
