laptop battery time

I have a IBM thinkpad R30 with original battery.
After the battery is fully charged, I can use it for around 2 hours.

Is there better ways to lengthen battery time?

I am looking for another laptop. Is the ultra-small (2 lbs) laptop offer
longer battery time. I am thinking about the IBM thinkpad X40, or Dell
laptop?

Your advises are much appreciated.

If you haven't, you should check out the various "power schemes" offered in
the control panel; you might stretch things a bit by choosing the one that
conserves battery life the most and by disabling any WIFI radio if you're
not using it. Dimming the screen helps a little also, but we're only
talking adding a few extra minutes here.

I got the impression you could easily double your operating time with an
X40, if not triple it, but as someone else has mentioned, you'll need to
look up the stats from IBM. If you like what you have, you could just buy
some extra batteries and charger, and carry at least one fully charged
replacement to swap out when the first is exhausted.

That's my memory, I didn't do the research for you (sorry). I think the X
series is designed especially for extended battery life (no built-in cd
drive for instance, 12" screen, etc.).
