Hello guys, i recently ordered a hd5970, but i am now worried about how much my cpu will hold it back. Should i cancel the order and get a hd5870 to reduce bottleneck?. My cpu is a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300@ 2.5ghz which has been overclocked too 3.8ghz and has had no problems with my current HD4870x2 setup. Should i upgrade to i5/i7 build or will the quad do its job for now?. Thanks guys.

My system:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 @3.8ghz
4GB Ram @1066mhz
HD4870X2 2gb
MSI P45 PLATINUM
500GB seagate barracuda + 300GB Western Digital

I would cancel the order, if you're not getting the FPS you want with dual 4870s (~5870) OC them, if its still not enough its probably time for a new build.

Its just that the hd4870x2's take up a lot of space and there old. And i kinda wanna run gta iv smoother then the hd4870x2's.

GTA IV is very CPU intensive and a 4870X2 is more than enough for that game.

You'll need a faster CPU if you want performance there.

Bench below is using a 3.5ghz i7.

You'll want more CPU power with a 5970 on 1080p. Not that you won't see an increase, but there will be some bottlenecking on most games.
