Tesla 2050/2070 or GTX480 for rendering 3dsmax

Hello everyone!

Sorry that there is no GPU computing thread, yet...but:

What is your take on the following question:

Both the GTX480 and the Tesla 2050 have similar number of CUDA cores.
However, the GTX costs less than 1/2 of the Tesla card.

Is the 3GB/6GB of the Tesla really worth the money when it comes to rendering (looking at FinalRender or MentalRay, once they both finish their CUDA enabled engines)?
The Tesla is faster (I guess). Can that be tuned and thus make up the difference?

Cheers,
Stefan.

Tesla has ECC memory while 480 has not. ECC is a must have for high reliability servers. Do you need that for rendering?
More memory make sense if there is enough data to process. e.g. if 1GB data is to be processed on GPU, then 1,5 or 3 or 6 GB memory does not make much difference. But if 20 GB is to be be processed, then there will be more transfers of data from CPU memory to GPU memory and from GPU memory back to CPU memory. Data transfer is the bottleneck of GPU processing, so you really have to take into account the data amount.

Hope this helps, cheers!
