how good is ati radeon HD5470 1gb compared to its 512mb counterpart.
everything else remaining same, i.e clock speed etc,,

The difference in memory size will not matter at all on a card of that caliber.

HD5470 is a weak card, no matter which version, it only good to play movies and pictures...

the thing is my brother is buying a laptop.
so he does not have an exotic budget.. hence he wanted to know what was better??
he only plays an occasional CS, or other low end games.. and even if he goes with heavy games he wont play at the highest resolutions...
so anyway i suggest to go with 5470 512 mb. but it comes in INSPIRON and 5470 1 GB comes in Studio. and the inspiron is said to have a heating problem so what should he do???
please help.. and i am sorry to post in this topic!!

If your brother is just doing some low end games like CS then it's okay to use HD5470.
What kind of INSPIRON? can you show us the link to this laptop?
Did your brother already bought it?

You can add external portable fan for laptop, in case you need it, but i guess this laptop isn't too hot...

Your brother will be fine with both of your options, choose whichever you like...
It will play CS fine, but not recent (heavy) games.
About heat, you can add external portable fan.
