I have one of these dinosaurs, a DX4/75, and a SmartStation docking station.
It's a relic I know, but I like a challenge and I have an Interesting Plan
for it.
Anyway, I would like to know the maximum size hard drives that it will
handle. The LTE currently has a 1.2GB drive and the SmartStation has a 6GB.
BIOSes used to have limits of 2.1GB then 8.4GB so I'm fairly certain that if
the SmartStation can see a 6GB drive it will see an 8.4GB one.
However I'm not sure if this will apply to the LTE as well, and I would
prefer not to spend money experimenting to find out, if some helpful person
already knows the answer. Besides which, it's a difficult job to remove the
HDD from these machines.
The Compaq documentation I have found mentions 810MB as the largest drive
available at the time but doesn't mention the maximum possible size.
I could use drive overlay software to run a larger drive and I may yet do so
on the SmartStation drive, but I would prefer not to on the LTE.
So, has anyone out there put a HDD larger than 2.1GB into one of these
laptops?
