PARTS NOT REQUIRED: i have a keyboard, mouse and monitor however the monitor is quite old, still a flat screen but old.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com

PARTS PREFERENCES:
I prefer AMD but do not know enough to have a solid preference

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe, I don't know a whole lot about it yet

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe, for the same reasons above

MONITOR RESOLUTION:
not very sure, like i said before it's old so probably a bad one lol

More about gaming time building
  1. i noticed that a lot of recommendations were for the Phenom ii cpu, I was wondering if i should opt for that instead and if so which one?
  2. $644AR, get yourself a spanking new LCD ^^
  3. thanks, looks good. I was wondering which parts are the most important? for example which parts should you go "high-end" on and which parts can you just get any old brand? which brings me to my next question, how much does the brand name really matter? and should i think about a 650 watt power source?
  4. I would definitely hit an 80+ PSU and even if a case is humbly price: study its cooling options ^^ Well if you have the budget the Earthwatts 650 + Gskill CL7 1600 2 X 2 combo looks enticing ^^

  5. cool is there a big difference between quad core and triple core?
and would i be better off with a phenom ii x3 or x4 rather than the Rana? it might cost more but would it be worth it?
  6. oo and as for the monitor, i think i'll save up and buy one in the future

With hardware unless you are on a ridiculously tight budget you always want "high-end"ish parts. Brand name definitely matters, but not in the normal consumer sense.
For example, brand name toilet papers are all pretty much acceptable excluding personal preference.
But with computer parts, a brand name like Coolermaster has really good cases, but terrible PSUs. Corsair has good PSUs, but overpriced RAM. G. Skill has great RAM, but nothing else that I'm aware of.
Each brand name seems to have one or two things they are really great with, but will still manufacture a wide range of computer hardware.
I used a little bit of hyperbole to make my point, but I still feel its a valid point and I think most people will agree here.

P.S. Only the best for my buttocks! :bounce:
  8. does anyone know about when the back to school sales will start on new egg?
