I have a Toshiba 2065CDS laptop that I recently upgraded to XP Pro. It has
160 MB of RAM. If I plug an external mouse into the PS/2 port, it often
results in crazy behavior for the mouse. It looks like a madman is racing
the mouse all over the screen, opening up dialog boxes, and other stuff at
lightening speed. Unplugging the external mouse, and then replugging it in
usually corrects the problem, but then the mouse moves like molasses and the
scroll wheel doesn't work.
I know problems like these on older systems might not get solved, but I
thought I'd at least post it for the record. If anyone has any ideas, I'd
certainly appreciate the chance to try them. BTW, I have scanned for
viruses, spy ware, and installed all the windows patches already with no
change in the mouse problem.
I have a workaround for the problem, which is boot up without the external
mouse attached, and then attach it, while crossing my fingers. This often
works. Booting up with the external mouse attached usually doesn't work. I
have also used a PS/2 splitter to attach an external keyboard as well, but
this doesn't seem to change anything.
