Is this an OVERRATED psu?

Plus if you max out the 5 and 3.3 volt rails (won't happen in a modern PC), you will only have about 10 amps available on the 12 volt rails.

Yopu need to read the label on the PSU closely to see how the power is divided among the various rails.

welll see the reason i ask is because this asus psu feels very heavy and has more amps than both the zumax (uh-oh max again) 400w and 500w i have...and as i understand zumaxes are actually decent units...

ive never heard of zumax, and just did some research. Zumax seems to have its own PSU's which reviewed quite well, BUT, there is an epower zumax, which is another brand all together based on Topower. All this is very confising. Topower are cheaper PSU's where I come from. Im confused.... all 3 brands seem to be the same thing http://www.topower.com/product/zumax.htm. Then I found Topower make PSU's for BFG, OCZ, mushkin also. Anyone care to shed some light on this??

My general rule of thumb btw is to avoid all PSUs with max, maxx, and/or xtreme in the title. They tend to be junk.

Not a bad rule.

Another rule: In the absence of everything else, when faced with two PSU's of similar ratings, buy the heavier one.
