Ati radeon hd 5670 is your best choice, otherwise go for the nVidia geforce 9800gt

I just bought a new monitor and now need to upgrade video card to drive it properly.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: ASAP

BUDGET RANGE: $100 After Rebates (I'll go higher only if absolutely necessary)

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Software development. So, crisp text. Not a gamer, don't edit photos.

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY:
nVidia GeoForce 7300LE TurboCache
Dell's invoice didn't specify what power supply I've got

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS:
Dell E520 PC
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8GHz, 800FSB) with 2MB cache
3GB RAM

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 2560x1600 (HP LP3065)

you have a 305w PSU, its a solid PSU. I ran both the 9600GT and 9800GT off it.

since you don't game, you dont need a 5670 or 9800GT. I would suggest an ATI 4350 or 4550, its solid upgrade from the 7300le and you can pick one up for less then $50.

Ya, the poor guy actually took the time to fill out the info template, too. :) 

I went with the 4550. I'm actually pretty shocked to get 2560x1600 for that price. Thanks for the super fast response and awesome suggestion ct1615!

because for $50 he can get one to write software code till the cows come home and if it breaks, he still has $50 to get a second one.

and by then, the $100 one will only be $50, in case I am successful and find time to play games :)
