Need Laptop Expert Please!

I've read some of the messages here about getting a laptop but I'm
still not sure what to do. I need someone who really knows about the
whole spectrum of laptops and is savvy about price vs. features, etc.
I'm also totally clueless about wireless but it's an important feature
so any info on that would help too. I want to spend under a grand,
and I'd like all the stuff that everyone wants, i.e. long battery
life, lightweight, the ability of the laptop to switch to a speedboat
at the touch of a button. Ok, maybe not that last one... I'd prefer
new to used, used computers make me nervous. Refurbished would be ok,
if the refurbishers have a good rep. My home computer is a Dell and
it's done well by me so far so I have a certain amount of faith in
them but I'm open to any possibility.
