looking to upgrade my aging 939 setup and a mate gave me a 7750 x2 which he used for barely 3 months.
Is the difference huge between these 2 procs?

My 939 system has been great up untill a few month ago when my 4200+ kept overheating mid game and shutting down. Bought a new cooler but no luck. All i play right now is MW2 on max settings on 1920x1080 even lowering the settings didnt work.

any info much appreciated.

You would need a board and ram...

With the prices of AM3, DDR3, an Athlon II X2 or X3 would be the way to go. Guess you could save the price of the processor but that would limit future upgrades.

already purchased 2gb 1066 and my board is on the way (Asrock N68C-S UCC GeForce 7025 Socket AM2+). The board can handle am2,am2+ and am3 chips plus ddr2 and ddr3 sticks which make3s it great for the future, well for me anyway am a budget guy.

Here is a benchmark between those 2 CPU's
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/mid_range_cpus.html

It's a long list so you will have to look closely.
The 7750 does seem to fare better overall over the older 4200+
One can even look here at the 7750 although the older 4200+ CPU is not listed one can compare it to the faster Athlon 64 X2 models in different benchmarks.
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/desktop-cpu-charts-q3-2008/benchmarks,31.html
Later on of course you could upgrade the CPU to a more powerful newer model.

Thanks for the info. From that i can see that its a decent jump forward from the old 939 systems and dont have to shell out more money as im not a hardcore gamer.

Cheers :)
