  1. what is your monitor's native resolution?
what power supply do you have?
  2. i am using an acer 19inch. the resolution is just set to its recomended default setting. i think its around 1600x 1200 or something in that area. my current power supply is a 300watt stock cheap pos. obviouslyi will be bying a new power source in the next few days. is the gt220 ddr2 1g an upgrade over what i am using. I currently raid pretty high end world of warcraft content and am looking for my screen to stop tearing and my card to stop overheating lol.
  3. i think its 1600x900 or close t that actually. as well if anyone can suggest an awsome place to buy cards online, pls do so since i am not that online sav when it comes to ordering stuff online. ty for reading my post and i jut wanna say you guys do an awsome job.
  4. I think the HD5750/70 would be perfect for you, and would play future games with no problem too at that resolution.

Newegg.com seems to be the best site for people from the US.
  5. the 5750 come in ddr2
  6. I don't think there are DDR2 versions of the HD5750 but even if there were why would you want one?
  7. most 19" LCD are 1440x900
with a 300w PSU i would look into an ATI 5670 2.0 card, 2.1 cards may cause an issue on your motherboard

  8. ty for the awsome answers to my questions. so i am not 2 computer savy, i am using the msi board mentioned above with ddr2 ram as thats what it is running, and i dont think it supprots anything but ddr2 at thehighest because its an old socket am2. can i use a card thats dd5 even though i have ddr2 ram in my board. sorry if this question sounds stupid but like i said i am not comp savy. ty once agin guys.

also the card you mentioned above specs is saying a 400w ps or higher. i did in my first post mention that i was going to buy ah better power source, but would this card run on my 300w.
  9. Yeah, the ram your video card uses has nothing to do with your motherboard so don't worry about that.
For a 300w PSU you will probably want an HD5670 but that card is a bit weak for 1600x1200 if that is your actual resolution. You should check. Either tell us the model of the monitor or right click on the desktop and go to properties. On the settings tab it will show your resolution.
  10. 1680x1050 or its 1650x1080 is what the resoltuion that my monitor is running. ty once again for the replys. I am just using this to play world of warcraft for the most part and my 1950gt 256 is just a peice of crap and like said its tearing and making the game unenjoyale lol. I had asked if the gt220 would be an upgrade over the x1950gt, and if so what sort of an upgrade would it be if its possible to put it into words. ty agin guys for the answers.

jyjyy already answered your motherboard / video card question, they are independent

the 5670 draws little power and the 400w listing is a vastly over conservative, the card works on most 300w PSU

with a budget of $125, a decent 400w PSU will run you $50-60 after shipping (not including rebates). That will leave less then $75 for a video card, hence the 5670 recommendation. If you up your budget to $160, then you can get this deal, and then get $35 back in rebates.

  12. The GT 220 would be better but it isn't a good card. The HD5670 is probably your best choice. It is a bit weak for your resolution but it's still over twice as powerful as your current card.

it would be a solid upgrade if you have a good dual core CPU, maybe 20% FPS increase. You would be able to run WoW on high without any shadows. raids and pvp you would need to turn down the settings even further.

but I would go with the 5670 over the GT220
  14. ct when your refering to me having to turn down the settings even further, is that said in comparison with the x1950gt i am currently using or just in general, since i already raid with everything turned right down to piss with my pos failing card. the 5670 does look like something i would upgrade, but i am just gona need this card to work till the end of summer as i will be buying a very solid gaming rig to replace my old pos. ty again guys awsome posts and i am gonna refer all ym firends here if they ever have questions.
  15. Well if you are building a new rig with a better PSU the you can use better cards. For something that would be great for your resolution go for an HD5770.

in general; while the GT 220 is a step above your x1950gt, it lacks the ability to handle a raid or pvp battleground at high settings without lag spikes
