I put together a 2nd system so my son game play games with me but it keeps locking up at random times (everything freezes, mouse cursor won't move, etc) and I am at a loss. Here's the setup:

AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor

Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)

GIGABYTE GA-MA785GMT-UD2H AM3 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC 430W ATX12V V2.2 Intel Core i7 Compliant Dual 80mm Fans Full Cable Sleevings Power Supply

SAPPHIRE 100265HDMI Radeon HD 4830 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

I realize the power supply is a bit small but ran a calculator and was supposed to be more than enough.

I've tried swapping out the memory and hard drive, have wiped the drive and reinstalled everything from scratch using both XP and Vista.

Any ideas? Do you think it might be something with the physical hardware (defective motherboard, etc)?

if you can, try swapping out the psu, it may be enough, but it still may be the problem.

I had the same thought but was trying to avoid it as I don't have a spare sitting around and didn't want to buy one if it wasn't the problem.

I have also updated the BIOS. It seemed to be running better but froze while installing Windows 7.

Any thoughts? Is there a better way to go about troubleshooting the problem? Diagnostic software?

I think I will try taking out the graphics card (running off the onboard card) to see if that helps.
