Hi,
There are so many different Sony Vaio PCG-V505 models and I can't
figure out what the difference between them all is. I've been looking
at the PCG-V505ECP8, but I don't know what the difference between that
one and others is (except price). I've learned that the "P" means
that it comes with Windows XP Professional, but that's all that I've
learned so far. What's the "DX", "EX", "EC" and all of that? What
does the number at the end mean? Thanks for the help.

Hi Ryan -
The V505 (E-series anyway) isn't that confusing, actually.
The V505EX and V505EXP models are pre-built configurations with a Centrino
package, consisting of a Pentium M 1.5 GHz processor, WLAN, a 60GB 4200 RPM
hard disk drive and 512MB of 333 MHz memory. You are correct, the "P"
indicates that the model shipped with Windows XP Professional (while the
base model shipped with XP Home). Both models offer a standard software
package, which can be upgraded.
The V505EC and V505ECP models are built-to-order configurations, where the
customer could select from a range of processors, inclusion/exclusion of
WLAN, HDD size and memory amount. The numbers at the end of EC and ECP
refer to the different custom configuration combinations. These models also
offer an standard software package, which can be upgraded.
All other Vaio models and models within product lines are named in a similar
manner.
