Hi!

I am looking to build a PC, and need help with the components - to make sure I have a good build.

BUDGET: around $1500 USD (including everything + a copy of MS Office 2007)

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Within a week

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Running massive Excel queries, Python scripts, internet

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: I need everything

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: www.newegg.com and Microcenter.com (I have a MC within 30 miles)

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA

PARTS PREFERENCES: Whatever is best for raw horsepower

OVERCLOCKING: Doubtful. This isn't a gaming rig.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: Something basic, like the ASUS VH198T Black 19" 5ms LED Backlight LCD Monitor from NewEgg for $129.99

Nope, I have no suggestions, it's a solid build.

You need to get 64-bit windows, otherwise half of the RAM you are buying is useless...

That PSU is total overkill. I would recommned one of the Green Antec Earthwatts PSUs, the 500 watt version would be fine, this way it helps keep the power use down.

I would upgrade the SSD to the 80GB version, so you can put your OS and productivity apps (excel) on there. The Intel X-25M G2 is around $180, get that one over the V.

Everything else looks good though! Lucky living so close to a MC.

Do you need Windows 7?

The CPU cooler is only necessary if you plan on overclocking or you find the retail cooler too loud.

You might consider a 5450 instead of the 4650. $25 after $10 MIR, passively cooled, can drive up to 3 monitors, has DX11, and does HD audio bitstreaming.

EDIT: And yes, agree with Transmaniacon that the PSU is overkill. 80 GB SSD would be nice, but isn't necessary if you don't want to spend that much.

Sounds good.

I swapped out the 32-bit Win7 (doh!) with the 64-bit version.

Changed the SSD to the 25-M model. According to NewEgg, it writes twice as fast, correct? If so, that's a pretty good deal.

Went with the 500 watt PSU that was suggested.

Finally, I changed to the 5450 instead to the 4650.

Anything else?

Nothing else I can think of, your initial build was a great starting point.
