PC will not keep correct time

Hello,
My HP PC doesn't keep time. I haven't changed the battery yet but not sure that's the problem since it loses time when I'm using it and it's not relying (I don't think) on battery power when the computer is active.

Change the battery. The battery powers the RTC (Real Time Clock) even when it's powered up on AC.
