Hello everyone!

At the end of my first year of college I ended up with a Compaq Presario SR2163WM computer case, DVD burner, and Sata cable. A friend of mine was throwing out his computer, so a few of my friends and I raided it for parts.

Over my winter break I built my first PC. It was a great learning experience, so if any of you who are reading this never built your own pc I suggest you give it a try!

Anyway, I am thinking about painting the case just to see how it turns out. I read a few tutorials and am now willing to try it out!

I also picked out the parts for the computer and just wanted to run it by you guys to see if any of you had any suggestions.

Motherboard
ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO Micro ATX

CPU
AMD Athlon II X2 255 Regor 3.1GHz (I wanted to try out AMD since I already built a PC with Intel.)

Power Supply
Rosewill RV2-500 500 W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

RAM
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Hard Drive
x2 Seagate Barracuda 250GB (I will be putting these into RAID 1)

Video Card
XFX HD-465X-ZDF2 Radeon HD 4650
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

The total price is around $440

Any way of lowering the price a little more?
All suggestions are welcome!

Thanks!

NO rosewill power supply. Get corsair, antec, thermaltake, etc. Buy trusted brands. 80+certified for peace of mind.

+1 to no Rosewill! Frankly if u want to fork out $$ for a discrete, i wouldn't bother unless one at least hit a min HD 4670/9600GT Compaq casings aren't exactly great w.r.t cooling options as well so for $374AR a possible config?

Thanks for the heads up on the rosewill!! I like your config, batuchka, but I want to use the Compaq. I know the cooling is not very good at all. It only has one outtake fan on the back. I'm thinking about adding a fan on the side panel just to see how it comes out.

What I really want to try to do with this pc is mod the case a little and have it for some gaming. It will mostly be a computer to have at college so that I will not have to always rely on my laptop.

Hello again, so I made some modifications to my build. Let me know what you think!

Motherboard
ASUS M4A88TD-M

CPU
AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz

Power Supply
OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ500MXSP 500W

RAM
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3

Hard Drive
x2 Seagate Barracuda 500GB (I will be putting these into RAID 1)

Video Card
XFX HD-555X-ZNF2 Radeon HD 5550 1GB

The total cost is $500 which is my limit. Originally I wanted just to spend $400 but I cannot bring myself to skimp out on quality parts.
All the parts are going to go into the compaq case that I want to mod.
The only thing that I am not to sure about is the graphics card. The reason for this is because I am not able to find any reviews on it and I am not sure if I should go with that graphics card.

Any suggestion is welcome!
