CPU 4 4Pin x1?

I'm just wondering if a CPU 4+4 x1 is my 8 pin for my mobo.. I don't have an 8 pin connection but I have a 4+4x1 ect.. do I put in both or whats up.. my last build was a p4 3.0 I just got an i7 870 ect p55 with a coolermaster extreme power plus 550w that I was hoping to use till I buy a second video card and a better power supply.
