Phenom ii 965

i just got a new amd phenom ii x4 965 cpu and it really weird my cpu is running at stock speeds and the cpu fan is going crazy at like 5k rpm for no reason and every time i turn the fan down my computer shuts off and idk why its confusing the hell out of me anyone got suggestions?

What are the temperatures being reported by your system? Use a tool like CPUID HWMonitor to find out.

Maybe the reason the fan is going fast is the CPU is too hot?
Maybe it shuts down to keep the CPU from catching fire?
