Do i need to format my harddrive

ok so i am building a computer for my friend from the old parts from which i upgraded but i am using the old hard drive because of budget constraints i HAVE to so am i going to need to format because of the new hardware

you do not have to format it but it is best to "clean it up" before installing an OS.
