Extrenal Hard Drive Failure

Hello,
I am so mortified, I am desperately trying to access my Seagate Free Agent Go Flex external hard drive and i can not get onto it. The usb is showing as connected but when I try to view anything that is on it I get an error message saying that The Parameter is not correct. Is there anything I can try and do to fix this. All my family history of 10 years is on here!!!

sometimes the sata to usb adapter inside the external enclosures goes bad. you can open up the external case and try connecting your drive directly to your computer. careful though, some of the newer external hard drives have a usb interface attached directly to the hard drive itself.

if that doesn't work try some recovery software

if that doesn't work pay for professional recovery

gone are the days when hard drives outlasted computers, having a single copy of valuable data just doesn't cut it anymore
