Do you need to unlock the i7?

hello,just wondering when i buy the I7 930 cpu do i need to unlock few cores? like the amd Phenom needed to unlock some cores,do you need to do it same for the i7 cpus? or its gonna be unlocked when i purchase it?

No. Intel cpus won't allow it. Amd does it as an incentive for gamers, but sometimes it doesn't work.

Only low end Phenoms need to be unlocked. Intel doesn't have any quads turned into dual cores therefore there are no extra cores to unlock.

I doubt the unlocking of the triple/dual to quads was AMDs idea. It was probably a side effect of their setup and they just went with it.

It would be the same as them allowing you to unlock a Semprons L3 cache to that of a Athlon and getting tghe exat same performance for less.
