Audio in Dimension 5150

I have a Dell Dimension 5150 desktop. when I power up the system the audio (SigmaTel) works fine for a while then just stops working. If I reboot the system the audio works again for a while. Device Manager shows the device as "working properly". I downloaded the latest driver from Dell, R114282, but after running the install I get a message stating this is not the correct driver for my audio. Any one know a solution other than rebooting every time the audio quits - which it does on a daily basis?

Try re-installing the OS (XP?) using the re-installation disk. This is the last resort. Even this may not solve the problem, and Dell tech is virtually useless.

Even though it is a PITA, re-installing the OS is worth a try.
