Hard Drive won't power up with SATA cable plugged in

So this is driving me insane. I have this hard drive I've been having tons of trouble with, I'll try to explain as best I can. A couple months ago my motherboard started having serious problems. So I replaced it, however the new one I got wouldn't run my hard drive. The hard drive would not power up with both power and Sata plugged in, however when I unplugged the Sata cable the hard drive would power up. So I tried a bunch of different things and finally decided that it was a compatibility issue between the hdd and the mobo. So I ordered a new motherboard and hooked it up and everything and ran it and it worked and the hdd was there and rainbows formed and unicorns frolicked. I turned off the computer then for a few days since I had just gotten a new GPU and didn't have the right cord. So I waited a few days then I got the cord turned on my computer and the hard drive isn't there AGAIN. So I'm wondering what could possibly have gone wrong? Is my hdd dead? why would it run those few times and then not after a few days? could it be that I have something plugged into a usb slot that could be interfering with it? It doesn't make any sense that it would start up only with the sata cable disconnected.
Here is my system

FWIW, Samsung Spinpoint F3 models had a firmware bug that resulted in non-detection when connected to an AMD SB850 chipset:

Maybe your AMD SB950 southbridge has a different AMD bug???

In fact the following thread appears to be describing a similar problem:

How in the world can I install a firmware update on a hard drive? and more importantly, how can I install one on a hard drive that doesn't work? :(
Can you find me a link to the update that is described in the second link? I'll start looking myself too.

YOU ARE A GOD!!! I've been having problems with this for 2 months and that second link helped me fix it. If you were here next to me, I would give you a hug and if I were a woman, I'd sleep with you. Here is the link to the actual file if anyone else has the same problem as me. Funny thing is I had the same problem with two motherboards of different brands, what a pain...
