Im sure this topic has been beaten to death but i cant really find the answer im looking for. Im thinking of getting a SSD and my question is: if just the OS is installed on the SSD will everything run a little smoother?? including programs that are installed on a normal HDD? or is the benefit strictly going to be faster boot times, because thats such a minimal boost if thats all i'll get.

You should buy a large enough SSD to install applications you use the most on it, but even if you don't, the system will run a bit smoother. A good setup is to install the OS and applications on the SSD and store data on a hard disk if the SSD is too small for your storage requirements.
