hi all i have a phenom II X4 955 black edition cpu, i have downloaded the AMD overdrive program but it will not let me adjust my multiplier higher than 16X (16X being the stock Ghz at 3.2Ghz)

this happened after i formatted my computer recently, prior to that i was able to OC my cpu but now i cant do it anymore in overdrive. I used CPUZ it identify my cpu as phenom II X4 955 alright but does not state its a black edition. Is my cpu being recoignise wrongly? please help :(

AMD overdrive wont let my 955 go above 16x multiplier either. Any ideas? I just put this pc together a few days ago.

Chances are your motherboard isnt any good for overclocking.

Forget about software to overclock. Do some research online about mobo overclocking or if you already know the basics go ahead and apply it in the BIOS. IT IS MUCH MORE RELIABLE and efficient.

Did you build this computer yourself or is it an OEM computer? ie, built by Dell, HP, Acer, Mac, Toshiba, Asus etc?

Check the manufacturer's website for your motherboard to see if you have the most recent. Since it doesn't recognize the BE part of the CPU, you might have an older BIOS.
